Every health-conscious person knows that if you do not provide your body with the right "fuel" you cannot possibly do all that you need to do on those busy days. In fact, you will probably be feeling run down by noon if you are not careful in choosing "good" nutrients for your body, especially if you spend time exercising early in the day before work. This is why so many active people choose to snack on energy bars to take the edge off hunger and provide them with a few nutritional options for those meals on the go. It is also why we are devoted to explaining which healthy treats you may want to eat so that you are not being tricked into bad habits while personal training.
Choosing Only the Good Stuff
When you want a good protein bar, the ingredients list will be your best guide. You do not have to read all the ingredients, but you will want to see what it is mostly made up of. You should look for nuts and soybeans to be as close to the top of the list as possible. Ideally, you will look for the protein bars that have natural, whole foods listed.
*Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds
You should also look at how many grams of protein you will be getting. Some of the best bars have 10-20 grams of protein, so that you can use it to replace a meal during hectic days. You should also make sure that whatever you choose has plenty of fiber, which will also help you get through the day without needing "unhealthy" snacks.
Bad Protein Bars
When you want protein, you need to ensure that you are getting only the best ingredients. This means you have to check the nutritional table on the back of the box as well as the ingredients listed on the package. Otherwise, you will end up with a protein bar that benefits you about as much as a candy bar and that will not help you much when you are trying to reach your personal training goals. A good rule of thumb is that if you cannot pronounce certain ingredients; you probably do not want to eat them. You also want to avoid anything that is "fake". This includes things like:
*Artificial Sweeteners like Sucralose
These things add flavor, but may keep you in a rut. Replacement sugars can cause you to feel bloated and gassy, corn syrup may increase fat, and there are other very unsavory possible effects from eating these foods.
