Stress makes it difficult to stay positive at work. In fact, 65% of employees say that workplace stress causes difficulties in day-to-day life, and 75% of employees feel daily work stress is more extreme than it was a generation ago. This stress is often substantially worse for those of us in managerial or supervisory positions.
Maintaining a brighter outlook, however, can help mitigate this stress. It's not always easy in the face of workplace pressure, but we'll provide some tips on staying positive in your workspace.
Keep your goals front and center
No matter what your work situation looks like, you're there for a reason. When mired in daily grievances, you may lose sight of the bigger picture. You have to remember that you are highly motivated, and you have goals that mean a lot to you. Remind yourself of the reasons you're in your current position; this could include leaving sticky note reminders to yourself on your desktop or work phone. Whatever it takes to remember your priorities!
Manage your inputs
When you're frustrated, it can be tempting to vent with colleagues. However, you may want to curb this impulse; while it may feel cathartic in the moment, it can increase stress over time. When others are complaining or being negative at work, remember that you don't have to indulge. Feel free to excuse yourself from conversations or close your office door.
Create habits you look forward to throughout the week
Don't be afraid to treat yourself in small ways throughout your workweek. Maybe you brew a fresh coffee and have a snack two hours before quitting time every day. Perhaps you take a brisk walk on your lunch break, or listen to music or a podcast when you can. Habits like these may seem insignificant on the surface, but they can help break up the day and keep you happy.
Set aside intentional time for yourself outside work
